Judith Elizabeth “Judie” Tessmer Bishop, 76, Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of Junction City, died Feb. 22, 2018.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, March 2, 2018 at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiated by Father Martin Schratz. She was born May 16, 1941, in Marshfield, the daughter of the late William Tessmer Sr. and Patricia Tessmer.
She grew up in Junction City, attending Junction City Grade School, and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1959. She was in the choir and taught Sunday school at Little Methodist Church in Junction City.
Her first job was as a nurse at Sherwood Sanitarium, Milwaukee. She was married to David Bishop Aug. 1, 1964, in Milwaukee. The couple also resided in various places, including Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania before settling and retiring in North Carolina.
She spend many years working as a health care nurse in various school districts.
The couple enjoyed hiking, picnicking, restaurants and traveling. She also enjoyed gatherings/parties, church, gardening/plants/flowers, dancing, shopping, reading, quilting/sewing, laughing and getting dressed up. She also enjoyed Facebook and the beach.
Survivors include her husband, David; three daughters, Janet (David) Pretorius, South Carolina, Anne (Joanne) Bishop, Pennsylvania, and Kimberly (Angeline) Bishop-Cox, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, Nathan, Julie, Melanie, John, James, Elisabeth, Rachel, Andrew, Matthew and Jaxon; and siblings, Peggy June (Colin) Maier, Wisconsin Rapids, Rosemary (Nathan) Bruce, Milton, William (Louise) Tessmer, Junction City, Nancy (Kenneth) Tippery, Lodi, James (Kathleen) Tessmer, Junction City, and Sharon (Gerald) Studinski, Custer.
