Committee says ‘no’ to keeping monkey

The Stevens Point Public Protection Committee rejected the request Monday, Feb. 12, from a Stevens Point woman to keep a common Marmoset monkey in her home as a family pet.
The vote was 3-0, with Alderpersons Mary McComb, District 1; Meleesa Johnson, District 3; and Mike Phillips, District 10, voting in favor of denial.Heidi Oberstadt, District 5, and Cathy Dugan, District 8, were excused.
Diella Lake, Simonis Street, requested permission to keep the animal in compliance with a city ordinance that requires a special permit to keep or maintain a farm or dangerous or wild animal in the city.
