Amherst girls head to state

The Amherst High School girls basketball team is heading to the WIAA State Tournament for the first time since 2009.

The third-ranked Falcons (25-1) won 50-39 over Southern Door (21-5) in a WIAA Division 3 Sectional Final at Kaukauna Saturday, March 3, to earn a trip to the State Semifinals at the Resch Center in Green Bay Thursday, March 8.

Amherst received the second seed at state and will take on third-seeded Milwaukee Saint Thomas Moore (21-5) in the WIAA Division 3 State Semifinals at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, after seventh-ranked and top-seeded Marshall (25-1) faces ninth-ranked and fourth-seeded Wisconsin Dells (25-1) in the other State Semifinal at 1:35 p.m. Thursday.
