Local Nay-osh-ing Chapter Holds Awards Ceremony

STEVENS POINT — Nay-osh-ing Chapter, Plover, DAR, held it’s awards night at the Stevens Point Public Library on Feb. 21. The annual meeting recognizes honors and rewards American History and Christopher Columbus essay winners, as well as Good Citizens and Community Service awards.
Shannon Moore, Regent, gave the background of each award and the history of the Nay-osh-ing Chapter. This year’s Essay Title was “World War I: Remembering the war to end all wars.” The chapter winners were: fifth grade, Kayla Hintz (James Madison Elementary School) and Adam Mueller (Pacelli Catholic Middle School). Chapter winners this year was 10th grader Abigail Jackson from ( Stevens Point Christian Academy.)
The Good Citizen awards are given to a high school senior who shows qualities of dependability, service, leadership and personality. Awards were given to Loyal High School student Christina Miller, Neillsville High School student Willow Eisfeldt and Marina Reifenrath from Mosinee High School.
This year’s Community Service Award was given to well deserving Gary Glock. Gary is said to be the guardian angel of his neighborhood in Plover.
“If he sees and elderly neighbor in trouble, he immediately goes to the rescue. He not only addresses the immediate problem, but also works to prevent future trouble. Gary keeps driveway clear, leaves raked and grass cut for neighbors. As a retired teacher he keeps in touch and loyally supports former students. Gary Glock is one of the charter members of Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover and to this day is still serving the Lord however he can. He has served on various boards and Committees over the years and now enjoys taking a lighter role being on the greeter/usher schedule.”
Any woman 18 years of age or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership in the DAR.
