UWSP Men’s Hockey receives NCAA berth

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s hockey team received one of five at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Tournament, when the NCAA Division III Tournament field was announced Monday, March 5.
The fourth-ranked Pointers (20-5-3) received an opening-round bye and will travel to play at second-ranked Adrian (Mich.) (24-5-0) in the NCAA Quarterfinals Saturday, March 17.
The winner will advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y., Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24.
This will be the fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and first under interim head coach Tyler Krueger, a Stevens Point native and former Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) and UWSP standout.
The Pointers made three consecutive National Championship Game appearances from 2014 through 2016, as they won the 2016 National Title, and then lost 6-3 at home to Adrian in the NCAA Quarterfinals last year.
