STEVENS POINT — Interracial dating and marriage is the topic of a workshop sponsored next week by the Hmong and South East Asian American Club (HaSEAAC) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The presentation will be offered at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in room 333 of the Communication Arts Center, 1101 Reserve St., Stevens Point. It is free and open to the public.

A presentation will be given by Sam Dinga, the mentoring and internships coordinator for UW-Stevens Point’s Center for Community Engagement and Experiential Learning. In addition, a panel of interracial couples will take audience questions.

Ee Foung Yang, public relations chair of HaSEAAC, said club members hope to share the struggles people face or may face in an interracial relationship. “Within the Southeast Asian culture, it is out of the norm to date someone outside of your ethnicity,” she said. “As panelists discuss their culture differences and obstacles, be prepared to discover more about yourself and others.”

HaSEAAC strives to promote awareness and provide an extensive understanding of the Hmong and Southeast Asian culture to UW-Stevens Point and the local community through personal experience, knowledge or historical understanding. To learn more, contact Yang at [email protected].
