Police Investigate Racial Slur, Threats Made by SPASH Student

STEVENS POINT — Local authorities have investigated an incident surrounding a SPASH student who made a racially charged statement on Thursday.
According to a Stevens Point Police Department news release, a report was made regarding a student who had used a racial slur during a statement, including the reference of a “shooting” taking place. This statement was made by an 18-year-old male at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
“A follow-up investigation identified the statement was referencing skeet shooting and determined no immediate danger existed for students or staff. Based on the investigation by law enforcement personnel, a criminal charge of Disorderly Conduct was submitted for the District Attorney to review based on the highly inappropriate and reckless statement made by the Suspect which created an appropriate safety concern for those involved.”
Stevens Point police are not at liberty to discuss the disciplinary actions that have been taken by the school district regarding this incident, though they are fully aware of the disciplinary process that followed.
Police have confirmed that the student in question is not in school today. No further information available at this time.
