To the Editor:

Holding a position of public office is a full-contact sport. Our local public officials are faced with budget stresses, changing state and federal rules/programs, competing local stakeholder interests, and negotiations with outside groups that often have more financial resources and knowledge. And, that is not to mention the infighting and often cut-throat competition between neighboring jurisdictions to secure outside investment. The Portage County

Executive must face all of these challenges and more.

The reality is that if we don’t place the best possible County Executive at the table, we will likely be on the menu. I admire the public service, commitment, and compassion that Jami Gebert has given to the people of Portage County. And frankly, in both Jami and Chris I think we have two very good choices for County Executive. In my estimation though, Chris brings the decisiveness, talent, intellect, experience, and perspective that Portage County needs at this time.

Chris digs into issues. He always comes prepared and leaves with more research to do. Chris listens to people. He will always hear you out. Chris focuses on the issues that matter most and works to find the best outcome. He will make good decisions (even if they are not popular at the time). Chris has a strong commitment to the process of decision-making. He will help ensure our public institutions grow stronger. He is committed to leaving the County’s finances in better shape at the end of his term. He will work with the next County Executive in mind.

And, Chris knows how to build coalitions. He knows how to get beyond personal and political differences to do what is needed. He will help us work together. Please consider these qualities when you vote on April 3rd.
