STEVENS POINT — Two guest artists will perform and conduct their own original music as part of a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band concert Tuesday, March 13.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center, featuring saxophonist Andrew Bishop and pianist Ellen Rowe, who both teach at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Their appearance is sponsored through the College of Fine Arts and Communication’s Great Artists, Great Speakers fund, the Department of Music and Jazz Studies Program.

The Jazz Ensemble will perform “Roll ‘Em” by Mary Lou Williams and arranged by Rowe, “Doomsday Machine Meets Mr. Gelato” by Rowe, “Funeral Music for Jobim and Piazzolla” by Bishop, “Beats Remark” by Robert Hurst and arranged by Bishop and “Waltz for Debby” by Bill Evans. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Mathew Buchman, professor and director of Jazz Studies.

Bishop is an associate professor and chair of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation. In addition to playing the saxophone, he is a clarinetist, flautist and composer who has been part of more than 40 recordings. He has received numerous commissions and won several awards for his work.

Rowe is a professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation. A jazz pianist and composer, she has performed at jazz clubs and in concerts around the world. She has several recordings as a leader, side musician and part of a trio and quintet. She also tours globally as a clinician.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
