Paul R. Barton, 54, Stevens Point, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 13, 2018.

Services were scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. Vance Elzinga officiating.

Visitation was scheduled from 3 p.m. Thursday until the services at the funeral home.

Mr. Barton was born July 5, 1963, in Wisconsin Rapids, a son of Clifford J. and LaVonne P. (Loomans) Barton. He was a 1981 graduate of Lincoln High School and studied diesel mechanics at Mid-State Technical College.

He was married to Judith Kuhn. The marriage ended in permanent separation.

He was a longtime volunteer and supporter of the MREA energy fair, was active in the Portage County Arts Council and was a devoted supporter and close friend to many local musicians.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, LaVonne (James) Hoogesteger; two sisters, Ann Meverden, Marshfield, and Lisa (Charlie) Klein, Wisconsin Rapids; five nieces; one nephew; two great-nephews; aunts and an uncle; and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford; one brother, Larry; one niece, Christina; and a special great-uncle, Henry Joling.
