With a berth in the State Championship Game on the line, the Amherst High School girls basketball team used a fast start to help pull away for a double-digit victory in a WIAA Division 3 State Semifinal at the Resch Center in Green Bay Thursday, March 8.

Amherst’s Maizie Berry, Lindsay Dose, Grace Moe, Geena Jensen, Heather Pearson, Lauren Boelte and Ashley Groshek take in their State Semifinal win, and an impending trip to the State Championship Game, from the bench during the closing seconds of their 45-32 win over Milwaukee Saint Thomas Moore in the WIAA Division 3 State Semifinals at the Resch Center in Green Bay Thursday, March 8.

The third-ranked and second-seeded Falcons (26-1) got out to a 16-2 lead to start the game on third-seeded Milwaukee Saint Thomas Moore (21-6) and stayed in control the rest of the way to earn a trip to the State Championship Game with a 45-32 victory.

“As a senior, it’s amazing,” said senior center Heather Pearson. “With this group of girls, I couldn’t ask for any more.

“They always work their hardest for everything,” she said.
