Ken Scheidt, 70, Custer, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend to many and husband of Jo Ann, died Wednesday, March 7, at a hospital near their winter home in Sun City West, AZ.

Ken was born March 22, 1947, in Milwaukee and graduated from Rufus King High School in January of 1965. He graduated from UW-Stevens Point and married Helen Franke in August of 1969. He was drafted into the Marines and after one tour of duty, honorably discharged. He joined Sentry Insurance in November, 1971, where he held various positions until retiring as general manager of SentryWorld in March, 2004. He married Jo Ann Smolen on August 24, 2000.

Ken is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Dombrowski) Scheidt; his daughter, Leah Scheidt and her son, Athan Toboyek, Kronenwetter; Jo Ann’s son, Derek Matykowski and his daughter, Taylor Matykowski, Wisconsin Rapids; Jo Ann’s daughter, Lindsay (Dave) Mayer, Plover, and their children, Kaleb and Lenna; sister, Susan Scheidt, Kaukauna; and brother-in-law, John (Connie) Franke, Mellen.

He is further survived by Marlene (widow of Norm) Dombrowski, Stevens Point; Nancy (Dombrowski) Walkush, Waupaca; Dave & Mary Ann (Dombrowski) Drefcinski, Stevens Point; Bob Dombrowski, Stevens Point; Chet & Mary Dombrowski, Stevens Point; Fritz & Carol (Dombrowski) Menzel, Stevens Point; Bill & Sue Dombrowski, Sacramento, CA; and nieces, nephews, aunt & cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna Marie (Schaff) Scheidt; his first wife, Helen (Franke) Scheidt; and special nephew Justin Franke.

Ken‘s quiet, dry wit and observant quips endeared him to countless people. With all those connections, he seemed to know a little something about everyone. He enjoyed his Corvette and Harley-Davidson communities but mostly loved sharing the fruits of his labor with family, friends and kids, embracing life as if knowing it might end too soon. Family and Ken’s many close friends grieve our sudden loss while gratefully recalling his joyful life.

A celebration of that life with sharing of memories will be held Monday, March 19, 4pm-7pm at SentryWorld Atrium. In lieu of flowers a memorial in Ken’s name for the Rosholt Educational Fund will be established. Checks can be directed to Ken Scheidt Memorial: 1475 County Road I, Custer, WI 54423 with checks made to: Community Foundation of Central WI

May the afterlife be an endless Wisconsin summer of waterskiing, pontoon boats, Corvettes, microbrews, and cookouts with dear friends and laughing children. With Ken at the grill. Wearing shades.
