Letter: Gebert has ‘Deep Passion for Local Government’

To the Editor:
As someone who’s spent most of my life in Portage County, I am proud of the number of women who have stepped into leadership roles both in and outside of government. I was excited to volunteer for Patty Dreier eight years ago when she first ran for County Executive, and I am just as excited now because another strong, thoughtful woman is seeking to be elected as the county’s leader.
Jami Gebert has such a deep passion for local government and community service that it is hard to imagine her not taking on this important role.
Jami has demonstrated a collaborative leadership approach through her many service activities, including the Toys for Tots collection sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greater Portage County. It is this leadership style that has allowed her to work closely with Patty over two terms in office, learning the complexities of county government operations. And it is this leadership style that will propel her forward to demonstrate just how greatly she values the citizens she serves.
It was Jami’s initiative that led the county to begin the public survey to better inform the pressing decisions about the County’s health care center. She recognizes that there are many more nuances in the community than a simple yes or no vote might reveal through a referendum. Her consensus building skills will be a major asset as the County works through a whole range of issues in the next four years. I am confident that she is the best leader for this position and I ask you to join me in voting for Jami Gebert for County Executive.
