With a trip to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four on the line, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s hockey team avenged a season-ending loss from a year ago to win at second-ranked Adrian (Mich.) Saturday, March 17.

Freshman Zach Zech scored two goals in the fourth-ranked Pointers’ 5-2 win at second-ranked Adrian (Mich.) in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals Saturday, March 17.

The fourth-ranked Pointers (21-5-3) scored three goals in the first period to jump out to a 3-0 lead, and held off Adrian (24-6-0 down the stretch to pull out a 5-2 victory to advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y., Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24.

“It was pretty overwhelming for me,” said senior forward and captain Willem Nong-Lambert. “It still really hasn’t hit me yet, and I think it won’t until I get to New York.

“But we’re really happy about the success we’ve had this season, since we have a young group,” he said. “And we look forward to seeing what we can do next.”
