UWSP Wins “Distinguished Delgation Award” at National Model United Nations Conference

For the City Times
STEVENS POINT — UWSP’s United Nations Student Organization (UNSO) has won the “Distinguished Delegation Award” at the 2018 National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference held annually in New York City (March 18-22).
Moreover, UWSP student, Zachary Pfannerstill, was awarded the “Outstanding Position Paper” award at this year’s conference.
NMUN is the world’s largest intercollegiate Model UN conference, which is typically attended every year by approximately 6,000 participants from more than 130 countries. Housed in UWSP’s Political Science Department, the UNSO has participated in this conference since the late 1990’s and last received an award for ‘Honorable Mention’ at the 2017 NMUN Conference.

“The UNSO was lucky to prepare for this year’s conference under the leadership of Jolan Dishno (President), Dustin Indermuehle (Treasurer), Jared Burkart (Vice President), Skylar Fitzgerald (Secretary), and Alexandra Miller, who did an outstanding job as the Head Delegate.”
According to UNSO Head Delegate Alexandra Miller, the following UNSO members successfully and professionally represented UWSP at the conference: Hailey Baumann, Melanie Heibler, Teresa Lind, Mariah Mantzke, Kiana Marr, and Nathan Thor.
“Without all of these members’ efforts, the “Distinguished Delegation Award” would not have been possible.” said Miller.
The UNSO would like to thank all non-traveling student members (especially Jarod Karls, Joseph Lorenzi, and Irene Rizzolatti), the UWSP Student Government Association, and the Department of Political Science for their invaluable assistance, guidance, and continued support.
If you are a community member interested in learning more about the organization and/or are interested in ways you can help promote or facilitate student participation in the organization, please contact Dr. Mert Kartal (faculty adviser) of UWSP’s Political Science Department. If you are, or are going to be, an enrolled student at UWSP and would like to join us for next year’s conference, please complete the membership application form here by April 15th, 2018.
“We are so proud of the work that this organization has done and of the way students have represented UWSP and the Stevens Point community on an international level.” said Miller.
