Ernest Alan Magnuson

Ernest Alan “Al” Magnuson, 67, Stevens Point, a retired Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) Spanish teacher, died Monday, April 2, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, April 28, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 600 Wilshire Ave, Stevens Point.
Visitation will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the service. A luncheon buffet will follow for friends and family.
Memorials may be donated to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Wisconsin Public Radio and the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
Mr. Magnuson was born Feb 4, 1951, in Grantsburg, a son of the late Ernest and Betty Magnuson. He was valedictorian of his graduating class from Grantsburg High School.
He graduated magna cum laude in Spanish Teacher Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1975. He continued studying at New York University, where he received his Master of Arts degree.
He taught Spanish at SPASH from 1975 to 2008, ending his career as head of the Spanish Department.
He acted in different theater productions as part of various community theater groups in Stevens Point.
Survivors include one sister, Nancy (Bill) Magnuson Howard; nieces and nephews, Christine and Carl Simpson, Steve Howard, Brenda and Doug Morris, and Brian and Leah Howard; and nine grand-nieces and nephews.
