STEVENS POINT — Cathy Dugan has won re-election for District 8 Alderperson.

As of 11:24 p.m., confirming the city’s initial results on their website, Cathy Dugan has defeated challenger Lynn Schulist. Dugan won by a small margin of 300 – 270.

Lynn Schulist spoke out about her loss shortly after the results came in:

“I would like to thank everyone who assisted with my campaign and provided support; whether it was financially, putting a sign in your yard, endorsing me, writing letters, providing encouragement with your kind words and prayers—I thank you!

To all of the District 8 residents, thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn more about you and how you would like to see the city move forward. Finally, thank you to my family for supporting me through this campaign and allowing me to provide our neighbors an option at the polls.”

Dugan thanked her supporters, as well as Schulist for a tight race.

“I want to thank District 8 voters who put me over the top.  They braved a mighty snow storm to get to the polls yesterday.  They put their trust in my experience, representation, and core values.  I am honored.

I am grateful to the dozen or more friends (many are campaign veterans) and my daughter Elaine.  They helped me campaign vigorously: knocking doors, making phone calls, writing letters to the editor, installing yard signs, putting stickers on those signs, making monetary and in-kind donations, putting stamps on postcards, calling me with encouraging words . . . .   They are the best.  Soon we’ll lift a glass to our victory.

And, I must not forget those progressives and labor unions who endorsed my candidacy:  Wisconsin Progress and three locals of AFSCME.  I am proud to be affiliated with both organizations and will continue to support their issues on Council.

I look forward to another two years on Stevens Point’s City Council, working with a remarkable group of representatives.  Point is lucky to have this Council.”
