Rotary Club helps newly formed Cycling Without Age program

Cycling Without Age Stevens Point is a newly formed, “mobility for all” volunteer program in Portage County.

The group aims to increase access to the outdoors for older adults and adults with limited mobility by using “trishaw” bicycles to give free rides around the community.

Cycling Without Age Stevens Point recently completed fundraising for the third of three trishaw bicycles, completing the “triple play” with the assistance of a $5,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Greater Portage County.

The Rotary Club of Greater Portage County is a branch of Rotary International, a world-wide service organization, and is active in community and International service.

Local fundraisers by Club members generate funds that can be matched with Rotary International monies to help meet local and global needs in the areas of peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy and economic and community development. As an example, the Rotary Club of Greater Portage County manages the annual Toys for Tots collection in Portage County as an agent for the National Toys for Tots drive.

Rotarians Rick Zahn, Bill Fehrenbach and David Henry presented the donation on behalf of the Rotary Club of Greater Portage County to Cycling Without Age Stevens Point Board members Tori Jennings and David Adamczak at the Stevens Point Transit Center Friday March 23. The Rotarians had a chance to pilot and be passengers in one of the new trishaw bicycles. The Rotarians plan to be actively involved in the Cycling Without Age program as trained volunteer pilots as the trishaw’s are deployed throughout the community.
