William ‘Bill’ Joseph Winkler, 80, Wisconsin Rapids, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Wellington Place in Biron while under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, April 19, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. Burial will be at a later date in Appleton.

Visitation was Thursday at the church.

The Pisarski Community Funeral Home of Plover assisted with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.pisarskifuneralhome.com.

Mr. Winkler was born Dec. 24, 1937, in Marshfield, a son of the late Paul and Maxine (Southard) Winkler. He attended Appleton High School (now West High School) and graduated in 1955.

He worked for the Appleton Wire Works as a millwright for 10 years, then was a circuit teacher for the Technical College of Wisconsin as a millwright instructor retiring in 1997.

He was an avid collector of steam train memorabilia and donated a box car that currently resides in New London.

Survivors include two daughters, Wenda Winkler, Appleton, and Lynn Winkler, Little Chute; two sisters, Barbara Zimmer, Fort Meyers, Fla., and Susan Ballou, Appleton; his significant other, Barbara Droske; the mother of his children, Joyce Winkler; Barbara’s family, Jackie (Tom) Bachmeier, Jim (Sandy) Droske, John (Alice) Droske, Samuel and Natalie Bachmeier, Justin (Stacy) Droske and Emily, Janaye Droske, Jaylen Droske and Chanda Droske.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard “Hap” Winkler; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Zimmer and Robert Ballou.
