Speaking contests play a key role in FFA members’ success. Members from around the state practice for months before the competition in hopes of continuing to State Competition. Contestants from the Stevens Point FFA attended the Sectional Speaking Contest at Owen-Withee High School April 9.

The teams that placed first and second at District Speaking Contests continued onto Sectionals to compete for first place and advance them to State Competition in June.

The teams in who competed in districts and continued onto sectionals were Quiz Bowl, Discussion meet and Extemporaneous public speaking. The Quiz Bowl Team consisted of Theodore Falkavage, Claire Viau and Parker Wisinski. Jacqueline Wisinski and Allison Schulist participated in Extemporaneous speaking, and Wisinski won first and is going to state competition in June. Breanna Weiler was the discussion meet contestant who was awarded second place.

The National FFA Organization’s mission is to develop Premier Leadership, Personal Growth and Career Success. The FFA speaking career development events places students on the fast track to achieving that mission.
