About Vanguard Squadron: The Squadron flies a four-ship formation aerobatic airshow powered by ethanol. Reaching top speeds of 207 mph, the Squadron dazzles audiences at dozens of airshow events each year.
About Grant Nielson: Growing up around aviation, his love for flying grew with aerobatic flying. After competing for 14 years, in 2012, he took to the sky as an airshow performer. During the event, he can be seen making the following maneuvers; Hammerhead, the Torque Roll, the Cuban eight, loops and rolls – among others in the Cap 232 plane, named Bubbles. Weighing in at 1,260 pounds, the 300-horsepower (hp) engine easily pulls the plane skyward at up to 3,500 feet per minute.
About Dave Scott: Since attending his first EAA convention and airshow at the age 1, Scott has dedicated his life to innovative aviation pursuits and to becoming an elite aerobatic pilot. His highly modified Pitts S1S features over-sized ailerons that double the stock Pitts roll rate and a 200-plus hp engine and cutting edge 3-blade prop that deliver vertical performance and sound.
About Mike Weinfurter: Bringing a bit of history to the show, Weinfurter will be flying the L-19 Birddog. Not an aerobatic plane, it served a much larger role at the U.S. Army Aviation Training Center at Fort Rucker, Ala., before being assigned to the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1960. After officially being retired from service in 1971, the aircraft currently serves as a flying tribute to all pilots and Birddogs flown during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
About Susan Dacy: Step back in time as Dacy puts her 450-horsepower Super Stearman ‘Big Red’ through its paces with a display of barrel rolls, slow, slow rolls, Cuban eights, hammerhead turns, loops and much more, in a style reminiscent of the barnstorming era of flying. As one of just a few women performing in airshows, in a biplane, she has flown more than 60 different aircrafts with more than 33,000 hours.
