McDill Elementary School Hosted 1st-Annual Story Walk
STEVENS POINT — McDill families and staff helped celebrate spring by attending the annual Earth Day celebration last Thursday evening, April 26 at McDill Elementary School.
To recognize National Poetry Month in April, this event showcased a Story Walk featuring poems written by McDill’s very own fifth graders as well as two other stories. This event encouraged families to spend time together outside and increased the awareness of the trails and outdoor classrooms in McDill’s registered school forest.

“Experts recommend children get daily exercise and reading time as well as time outside. Our school story walk brought all three of those together,” said McDill Librarian Elizabeth Peterson. “Families were able to spend time together in the peace of the woods, reading, talking, and laughing over a great story. I can’t think of a better way to spend time together. Through grants, we hope to make our story walk a permanent fixture on our school grounds so families can regularly be together outside while enjoying a new engaging story.”
McDill Elementary School is a Green & Healthy School and encourages utilizing outdoor spaces for learning. The school has beautiful green spaces that provide many opportunities for families to recreate and explore.
