Stevens Point Celebrates Arbor Day

STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. in Pfiffner Park along the west side of the band shell.
Mayor Mike Wiza, along with city forestry personnel, second grade students from Madison School, will help in the planting of seven trees.
The seven trees will be planted around the band shell and new bathrooms in the park. A mixture of trees will be planted. Two large Norway spruce will be planted by a mechanical tree spade and five additional trees will be planted by the students. Wisconsin Public Service is funding the planting of the seven trees.
The National Arbor Day Association has recognized the City of Stevens Point as a Tree City USA for the 37th year. To qualify to be a Tree City USA, municipalities must have a Tree Board, adopt a Community Tree Ordinance, have Community Forestry Program, and have an Arbor Day Celebration.
