STEVENS POINT — The Philanthropic Educational Organizations (P.E.O.) Chapter ES of Stevens Point has announced Sydney Clark, a Stevens Point Area Senior High senior, as a recipient of a 2018 P.E.O. STAR Scholarship. This international scholarship will be presented to her on Wednesday, May 16. Sydney intends to study engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison this fall.
“An impressive scholar, Sydney Clark is self-confident, articulate, and poised. She is an outstanding team player who loves to lead by example. As President of the Student Senate, Vice President of the National Honor Society, and Vice President of Youth in Government, Sydney enhanced her leadership skills with meticulous time management. Chapter ES found it it remarkable how Sydney often discovered outside activities to enhance her learning and understanding. Activities included job shadowing Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza, attending a YMCA Conference on National Affairs in North Carolina, and pursuing an Engineering Tomorrow’s Careers Camp. Sydney is an active and visible role in the community through her involvement in the Student Senate’s Public Outreach Program by creating fundraisers for a local women’s shelter and a Halloween canned good trick-or-treating for local food pantries. Stellar grades earned her an Academic Gold cup at SPASH. A versatile young lady, Sydney has also been a member of the SPASH Swim team, Track team and Forensics Club. This year she invested her time with the new SPASH Rugby team and Model United Nations club. During the interview process, Sydney clearly defined personal and professional goals to support her potential to flourish in future endeavors.”
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application.
