Master Gardeners’ plant sale set for May 19

For the City Times
STEVENS POINT — For a variety of hardy central Wisconsin perennials at great prices, attend the Portage County Master Gardener Volunteers annual plant sale Saturday, May 19.
It will be held at the Rettler Corp. grounds in the Portage County Business Park, across from Crossroads Commons off Highway HH. The sale is from 8 to 11 a.m.
University of Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener Volunteers – trained volunteers who assist UW Extension staff with horticulture education and community beautification – dig and divide their perennials for the sale. The selection is enhanced with flats of several additional popular perennials and specialty items from a wholesale nursery. Herbs, some shrubs and heirloom tomato and other vegetables seedlings also will be available.
Extension Master Gardener Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and help direct visitors to plants that meet their growing conditions. All plants are labeled.
Plants typically sell for $2 to $5, and the selection is best early. Money raised at the plant sale supports Extension horticulture education programs, horticulture resource books for local libraries, scholarships and area school projects.
