Obituary: Joyce Elaine Daberkow

Joyce Elaine Daberkow, 92, of Stevens Point, passed peacefully at Atrium Acute Care Center in Stevens Point on May 6, 2018.

Joyce was born on August 14, 1925 in Bancroft to the late Fred and Agnes (Waller) Daberkow. She attended school in Bancroft and went on to college at the State Teacher’s College in both Stevens Point and Eau Claire. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gama.

She started out teaching at country schools: Meadowview and Kellner; and then went on to teach 2nd grade at New London, Beaver Dam, Shorewood and ended her teaching career at Lowell School in Madison. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She moved back to the Stevens Point area in 1993 to be near her family. She moved into the Atrium Lodge at Stevens Point three years ago.

She belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevens Point for many years and recently switched back to her home church, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Almond.

In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling and made trips to Germany and Norway, the home of her ancestors, as well as a trip to the Brussels World Fair.

She is survived by: brother Ronald Daberkow, sisters-in-law: Betty Daberkow and Joanne Daberkow; nephews and niece: Richard Daberkow, Robert (Judy) Daberkow, and Susan (Stan) Holm; great nieces and nephews: Brianne (Chris) Kotolski; Gwen, Jack, and Grace Daberkow; Hannah and Karyna Holm; and Heather and Travis Bielen; great great niece and nephew: Quinlan and Shaylyn Kotolski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother James, and brothers Leland and Larry.

Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Almond on Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. with Rev. Brian Roehrborn officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to the time of service. Interment in the Town of Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Boys and Girls Club – Almond, or Retired Teachers Association. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family would like to thank the Ascension St. Michael’s staff, Atrium Lodge and Acute Care, and Ascension Ministry Hospice for their tender and loving care.
