STEVENS POINT — For the past five years, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students in the spring semester of Spanish 314 have created books in Spanish to help children in Nicaragua.
Their Spanish professor, Elia Armacanqui-Tipacti, works with the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners group to distribute the handmade and other donated books to Lending Libraries in Nicaragua. It helps local children improve their reading skills as well as helps UW-Stevens Point Spanish students improve their foreign language skills. The books are based on a variety of topics, including the outdoors, sports, food and animals.
