PuroClean claimed the Hammson Cup with a 5-4 victory over Auto Exchange in the Championship Game of the sixth annual Mosey-Leppen Classic adult hockey tournament at Ice Hawks Arena Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28.

A total of 192 hockey players with ties to the Stevens Point area competed in the 12-team tournament. Kevin McBride of PuroClean won the “Top Glove” award for the best goalie of the tournament, Joey Haydock (shooter) and Jason Lebrick (goalie) were winners of the Oscar E. Hopp shootout, and Jason Olds won the mustache contest.

Wally Leppen received the “Old Time Hockey Award,” while the “Cancer Sucks Game” raised over $1,200 for “The Angel Fund.”

The ceremonial puck drop before the Championship Game was done by the 1971 Wisconsin Juvenile State Champions, the Stevens Point Blackhawks, which was the first State Championship hockey team from Stevens Point.

Members from that team present were Ron Smith, Paul Klasinski, Mark Houch, Tom Dombrowski and Rick Peskie.

PuroClean team members were Jason Olds, Dustin Seefeldt, Travis Michalski, Amy Berens, Chris Houghton, Nick Schmidt, Mike Zinda, Alex Racino, Collin Blair, Andy Andrich, Jim Lawrence, Adam Nelson, Dave Koop, John Bockman, Jake Merski and McBride.

All profits raised from the tournament go to the Stevens Point Area Youth Hockey Association.

“Games were all competitive and close,” said Kraig Brooks one of the creators and organizers of the event. “Food was awesome and the live bands fantastic.

“Thank you to all volunteers, sponsors, players and the community,” he said. “It takes all of us to pull off a tournament of this high standard.”
