Lynette Bertha Linda Altenburg, (a.k.a. Lynne) age 94, of Plover, passed on into eternity with her Savior on May 11, 2018, at Whispering Pines of Plover, surrounded by her loving family.

Lynette was born on September 23, 1923 to the late Hubert & Selma (Meyer) Schultz in Lomira, WI. She spoke only German and while attending grade school in Lomira, learned her first English. She graduated from Oshkosh High School and went on to attend The School of Cosmetology in the Appleton area. She then worked as a hairdresser for 4 years at Vilmier’s Beauty Salon in Oshkosh until she met the love of her life, Robert.

Lynette married Robert Stanley Altenburg on August 10, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2002.

Lynette will be remembered for her extremely loving and giving nature. She truly was one of a kind. To her family she was a devoted wife and mother of six children. To friends and neighbors she was someone who could always be counted on for anything they needed. She dedicated her life to raising her children and working on the family farm alongside her husband, Robert, from sunrise to sunset. She was an avid gardener; growing, canning, freezing, and bringing the food she grew to the family table. That table was always full for dinner because everyone was welcome, knowing that she was an extraordinary cook! Salesmen always seemed to show up at the Altenburg farm around noon time knowing they would be invited to enjoy a meal of Lynne’s incredible cooking. She was also a seamstress and tailor, using her skills to sew most of the clothing for her family. She relished teaching her children to sew, although not with total success! She was also the sewing instructor for the Plover 4-H Club for over 25 years. She was quite the crafter and enjoyed taking any homemaking classes that the Tech School offered. She was a lifelong member of the Portage County Homemaker’s Club and was a member of the original P.A.L.S. Club at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point. Lynette was a devoted Christian and will truly be remembered as one of the last of the greatest generation.

She is survived by her children, Vicki (Alan) Potter of Stevens Point, Lois (Charles) Cose of Stevens Point, Paula (Robert) Pratt of Bancroft, Edward (Linda) Altenburg of Anthony, KS, Mona (Mike) Roberts of Hydesville, CA, and Fred (Karen) Altenburg of Bancroft; and sister, Vivian (Denver) Behm of Neenah. She is further survived by grandchildren, Carmen (Potter) Taylor, Erin (Potter) Sanders, Abigail (Cose) Ryskoski, Betony (Cose) Trzebiatowski, Renee (Altenburg) Urbans, Nicholas Altenburg, Amy (Altenburg) Konopacky, Harley Altenburg, Lea (Altenburg) Kiggins; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters; Bernice Prain and Lenora Hilke.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 3210 Maple Drive, Plover. Rev. David E. Ficken will preside. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 15th from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, WI. Visitation will also precede the funeral on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be held in Plover Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Lynette’s memory to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
