Peter Leahy, age 76, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at his home on Lake Owen in Cable, Wisconsin. He was born September 5, 1941 in Stevens Point, WI, the son of Allan and Leone (Baukin) Leahy. He was united in marriage to Karen Elaine Young on January 23, 1965 in Stevens Point.

Peter and Karen raised their family in Stevens Point and spent many summers traveling back and forth to the family vacation property on Lake Owen—where he later moved after her passing.  They enjoyed traveling the globe, participating in various community organizations together, and watching their family grow.  Peter especially loved planning and implementing home improvement projects and relaxing at the end of the day with a good pint of Guinness.

Peter was a strong believer in local journalism and worked as production manager for the Stevens Point Journal and later as publisher for the Portage County Gazette.  He was past president of Stevens Point Barbershoppers and a member of the Stevens Point Curling Club.  Peter was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Parish in Stevens Point and later St. Ann Parish in Cable.

He is survived by his children, Brenda (Michael Slevin) Leahy of La Crosse, WI, Brian (Heidi) Leahy of Stevens Point, WI, Patrick (Laura) Leahy of Stevens Point, WI and Ann (Jeremy) Kleifgen of Stevens Point, WI; his grandchildren, Eryn, Callie, Caitlyn, Brendan, Keegan, Zach, Breanna, William and Asher; his sister, Connie Donovan of Brown Deer, WI; his sister-in-law, Donna Furuta of San Jose, CA; his special friend, Evelyn Ryan of Cable, WI; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Peter is preceded in death by his wife, Karen; his sister, Rosemary Varney; and an infant grandson, Finn Kleifgen.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 13645 Co Hwy M in Cable, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of Mass.   Fr. Gerard Willger celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.

A gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 12th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hilltop Pub and Grill in Stevens Point.  Join the family in sharing a story about Pete while enjoying a Guinness.

Memorials should be directed to Operation Bootstrap and Regional Hospice Services of Hayward.

The family would like to thank Regional Hospice Services of Hayward and Heart of Compassion Hands to Serve LLC for their care and compassion.

For additional information, please contact the Hayward Funeral Home at 715-634-2609 or leave your condolences for the family online at www.bratley-nelsonchapels.com.
