‘Windward,’ A New Sculpture by Junction City Artist for Egg Harbor’s Bay View Park Terrace

JUNCTION CITY – A dedication ceremony for a sculpture created by Boleslaw Kochanowski, is scheduled for 1:30 pm, Saturday, May 26, at Egg Harbor’s Bay View Park Terrace located next to Beach Park, near the intersection of Alpine Road, Horseshoe Bay Road, and Hillside Trail.

After a regional Call for Artists, set in motion by the Public Arts Initiative of Egg Harbor, the Village of Egg Harbor commissioned Kochanowski to create a sculpture that referenced the natural beauty of the area.  With that focus, Kochanowski, a third-generation blacksmith from Junction City, WI, designed a family of cranes among graceful swooping spires in weathering steel.

“My pencil drawing moved the committee to unanimously accept the concept.  That is when the fun began,” said Kochanowski.  “The transverse tapering spires were laid out in a continuously changing scalene triangular cross section.  It was a challenge, but with the expert help of my son, Vincent, the thing came together.  The goal, which was achieved, was to make the 18-foot-tall spires seem to bend with the breeze that predominates off the waters of Green Bay.  Hence the name, ‘Windward.’”

At the dedication, Kochanowski will explain the sculpture and the meanings associated with it.

Kochanowski has work across the country, with much of it in private settings.  His public artwork in Wisconsin can be found at the Aurora Medical Center Healing Garden in Hartford, and at the corporate headquarters of the West Bend Mutual Insurance Company as part of the sculpture walk.  You can find Kochanowski on Facebook, or see more of his work at www.boleslawkochanowski.com.
