Obituary: Marie E. Sturm

Marie E. Sturm, age 93, of Stevens Point died May 18, 2018 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point, WI.

Marie was born September 6, 1924 to the late August and Theresa (Souik) Wanta in Polonia, WI. She attended the local grade school and graduated from St Joseph Academy High School. Following high school, Marie attended Miss Brown’s School of Business in Milwaukee, WI.

In her earlier years, Marie did clerical work for the Independent Creamery in Polonia, WI. She transitioned to Hardware Mutual where she met the love of her life, Waldemar. Marie worked there until her marriage. After living in Chicago and Toledo, she moved back to Stevens Point and worked at the Stevens Point University Book. Marie then work for Acorn Brand Manufacturing and later retired.

She married Waldemar Sturm on July 26, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2014. They had been married for 67 years, and Marie had longed to eventually be reunited with him.

Marie will be remembered for her sweet and loving persona. She enjoyed maintaining a sense of organization and structure within her life, as well as embracing the ever-changing seasons of the natural world. Marie enjoyed visiting her cottage on Lac Vieux Desert in upper Michigan and picturesque scenery of the fall colors. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and especially playing Bridge. Marie liked to test her luck at a casino and occasional horse race. In her later years, Marie became a winter Texan at an RV park in Pharr, TX. Her faith was important and was a member of St Stanislaus Rosary Society at Holy Spirit Parish.

She is survived by her sister, Donna Phillips; nephews, Jeffrey (Terry) Cubinski and Andrew (Ana) Olson; niece, Suzette (Mark) Bittmann. She is also survived by her great nephews & nieces- Steven (fiancé Molly McFall) and Samuel Cubinski; Matt, Erin, Mark, and Bridget Bittmann; and Jasmine, Araceli, and Katrina Olson; and extended nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Waldemar; and infant sisters, Lorraine & Ethel.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish with Rev. Tom Lindner presiding. Visitation will precede at the parish on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Spirit Parish. Online condolences may be made at bostonfuneralhome.net.
