STEVENS POINT — The first Central Wisconsin Summer String Orchestra will make its inaugural appearance this coming summer in Stevens Point.
String players from advanced high school through adult will rehearse and present a concert of string orchestra music under the direction of Kurt Van Tiem and Stephan Wucherer. Van Tiem, a long-time music educator in the Stevens Point school district and founder of the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program is very excited about the prospect of string players in the region having a chance to collaborate and get together “to make music during the summer much like their wind and percussion counterparts get to do in the many community bands that perform during the summer months.”
Van Tiem will share conducting responsibilities with Stephan Wucherer, string specialist in the Howard Suamico School District and conductor on the staff of the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program. Interested string players should contact Van Tiem by June 1st for more information on how to participate.
The concert for the public will take place Saturday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stevens Point Area Senior High School Auditorium. While the concert is free and unticketed, a free will donation will be accepted at the door. For more information, contact Kurt Van Tiem [email protected] or phone 715 345 5556.
