Stevens Point Judo Club holds end of the year promotions

STEVENS POINT — The Stevens Point Judo Club (SPJC) held end of the school year promotions.  The event was held in the dance room, room 154 of Quant Gym.  Parents and children came to watch an evening of Judo throws and promotions.

Nineteen students advanced in their study of Kodokan Judo (The Gentle Sport).  Judo is the number one individual sport in the World.

Tom Gustin, Jim Weidner, Jim Haferman, and Ken Camlet The Stevens Point Judo Team of Ed Happ.

The United States Judo Association in recognition of progress, knowledge, and technical skill demonstrated through diligent study of self-discipline and commitment to Judo, has met all requirements for promotions.  The individual is expected to improve technical knowledge, increase understanding of the principle of Judo, and embody the philosophy of Judo in all aspects of life.

The following youth have advanced in their Judo studies.  Liam and Oden Kubish advanced to white belt with one stripe.  Yellow belt  one stripe were awarded to, Riley and Bryce Bannach, Jackson and Sam Riddle. Yellow Belt with two stripes was awarded to Riley Riddle and Matt Pavelski.   Orange belts were presented to Bridger Barrett, Bryton Steward, Aiden Winn, and Josh and Zack Kolodziej.  Keston Hayakawa was presented with a Green belt.

Adult promotions were as follows; Jim Barrett, George Heeres, and Kurtis Bannach received yellow belt.  Jason Riddle was promoted to Orange belt.  Nate Boston received first Brown belt. His next rank will be Shodan or first degree black belt.

Congratulations to all recipients and keep up the good work.

This was the last class and promotions for coach/instructor Sensei Tom Gustin.  Sensei Gustin (7th degree black Belt) has been doing Judo at UWSP since 1965 and will be leaving Stevens Point and moving to Racine, Wisconsin.  The new head coach will be Jim Weidner assisted by Ken Camlet and Jim Haferman.  David Hayakawa will be the new administrator.
