The second-ranked Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) softball team had its postseason run come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Chippewa Falls in a WIAA Division 1 Sectional Final at Fire Pro Field at Woyak Park in Plover Thursday, May 31.

Seventh-ranked Chippewa Falls  (24-4) scored one run in the top of the first inning and added two more runs in the top of the fourth to build a 3-0 lead, then scored a run in the top of the sixth to make it 4-0.

The Panthers (27-2) answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within 4-1 and had runners on first and second with nobody out and brought the tying run to the plate, before Chippewa Falls got out of the inning and held on for a 4-1 win to advance to the State Tournament.

Complete coverage will appear in next week’s Portage County Gazette.
