The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) boys and girls track teams will each send multiple qualifiers to the WIAA Division 1 State Meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Friday and Saturday June 1 and 2.

The SPASH boys team had four individual champions and won all four relay events at the WIAA Division 1 Sectional at D.C. Everest Thursday, May 24, as they advanced 11 qualifiers in 10 events to state and won the Team Title at the Sectional.

The SPASH girls qualified six individuals and one relay team for state, as they finished second in the team standings at the Sectional.

Senior Trent Hamerski qualified in two individual and two relay events and senior Liam Belson won the 800 run and was part of two relay teams that also claimed victories, as they led the SPASH boys at the Sectional.

Senior Connor Pliska won the high jump and senior and NCAA Division 1 Marquette University recruit Johnny Hyland won the 3,200 run, while junior Chad Franz was second in the 800 run, and junior Blake Milkowski was third in the 1,600 run to also qualify for state.

Hamerski won the 100 dash and was second in the long jump, while he teamed with senior Nolan Metz, senior Alex Karpinski and senior Colton Kizewski to win the 4×200 relay.

Hamerski, Kizewski, Karpinski and Metz also combined to win the 4×100 relay, and Kizewski and Metz were part of their third Sectional Championship relay team of the day when they joined forces with senior Evan Brocken and NCAA Division 1 University of Wisconsin recruit Belson to win the 4×400 relay.

Belson also teamed up with senior Monty Flatoff, Franz and Milkowski to win the 4×800 relay.

The SPASH boys finished with 127 points, as they rolled to the Sectional Title over River Falls (75), Eau Claire North (75) and D.C. Everest (71).

On the girls side, sophomore Maddie Hyland won the 800 run to lead SPASH, which totaled 87 points to finish second in the team standings behind Hudson (138) and ahead of Wausau West (79) and D.C. Everest (65).

Senior Rachel Sullivan placed second in the high jump, junior Gabby Johnson was second in the long jump, and junior Renee Hinchcliffe came in third in the 100 hurdles to also earn a trip to state.
