“My main goal is that someone reading my books can escape reality for a little bit.” – B.A. McRae

PLOVER — Portage County is a hotbed for talented artists, and this includes up-and-coming authors.

B.A. McRae has been writing since she was 12, and has turned her passion for poetry into a bright future. On Saturday, June 2, Mission Coffeehouse will host a meet & greet with the 22-year-old McRae, who will discuss her second book titled “Perhaps”, which will feature 124 unique poems.

A graduate of SPASH in 2014, this young author seeks to delve into emotions that are captured in all facets of life. Her subject matter ranges from happiness, love, and the ‘little moments’ in life, to grief, depression, and anxiety. According to McRae, this serves not just as her own catharsis, but empowers other readers going through these emotions.

“I write each poem so that it’s diving into a different story, and different problems that as a society we don’t really talk about that much,” said McRae, “I write those things so people who feel like that won’t feel alone.”

McRae is self-published, which could be described as a labor of love for the young poet, who is known from her readers as writing visually descriptive pieces.

“It’s quite a bit a work,” said McRae. “…but I publish my work not for the money, but for the people.”

McRae is working on a novel, and looks to publish more works in the future, as this young author is just getting started. As described for “Perhaps”, ‘Every page turned is a new story and experience. Let’s call this our little escape.’

You can pick up a copy of her new book at Mission Coffeehouse on June 2, 2860 Post Rd. as a part of her meet & greet from 9AM to 11AM. You can also visit her website at http://briah42.wixsite.com/officialbamcrae

“I will hopefully be publishing more poetry books and new novels because I love telling stories,” said McRae. “I hope to continue to grow as author.”
