Obituary: Jean Houck

Jean Houck, age 92, Stevens Point passed away June 13, 2018 at Willow Brooke Point Senior Living.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 22, 2018 at St.

Peter’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Father Arul Joseph V. will officiate. Burial will be at the Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass

Jean was born April 24,1926 in Stevens Point. She was the sixth of seven children born to Frank and Gertrude (Kieliszewski) Wnuk. She grew up in Stevens Point attending St. Peter’s Grade School and graduating from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1944. After high school, Jean attended beauty school in Milwaukee. She married Ervin Houck on October 11, 1947 at St. Peter’s parsonage.

Jean worked at numerous beauty salons in the Stevens Point area for several years. Then, she became a receptionist at the Rice Clinic in the Internal Medicine Department until becoming Dr. Nyles Eskritt’s receptionist. She retired in 1985, and she and Erv moved to Long Beach, CA where they lived for 10 years. Jean was a member of Sweet Adelines and the St. Stan’s Rosary Society.

She enjoyed traveling with Erv, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and participating in daily prayer. She liked to keep up with the news of her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her daughter Sue (Rob) Klish, Stevens Point, WI, her grandchildren Tom Klish, Texarkana, TX, Jackie (Bill) Schmieldin, Shakopee, MN, Jennie (Jerry) Houtman and Jessie (Jeff) Marshall, Stevens Point, WI, and her great grandchildren Leah and Emily Klish, Charlie Schmiedlin, Zach Marshall, and another due in October. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Tice, Sturgeon Bay, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Erv in 2005, brothers Ray, Jerry, and Pepper Wnuk and sisters Evelyn Anderson and Marcine Wilfrath.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.

The family would like to thank Ministry Hospice and Willow Brooke Point Senior Living for their care of Jean.
