BUENA VISTA — A 20-year-old Almond man is dead after a fatal motorcycle crash on Thursday night.

According to police reports, at approximately 7:02 p.m., an Almond resident was traveling northbound via motorcycle on County Highway J near Sherman Road in the Town of Buena Vista. The bike failed to properly turn and left the roadway.

As a result, the motorcycle and operator struck a utility pole in the west ditch. The man was pronounced dead at the scene from resulting injuries.

Authorities believe the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and there were no other passengers on the bike at the time. Excessive speed appears to be the contributing factor in this crash, and it remains under investigation by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of the deceased will be released later today. Check back for updates.

Additional responding agencies included Plover Ambulance, Plover Fire and Rescue, Plover EMS, Portage County Coroner, and Portage County Chaplin Service.
