STEVENS POINT — Dick Bennett, retired UW basketball coach and brother Jack Bennett, retired UW-Stevens Point basketball coach, will join 142 golfers and 40 tennis players from all over north central Wisconsin at the SentryWorld/Special Olympics Wisconsin Golf and Tennis Classic on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at SentryWorld in Stevens Point.

All proceeds will go to Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Golfers and tennis players of all ability levels are invited. Tennis competition begins at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start for golfers is at 10 a.m. Participants will end the day with dinner, prizes and a brief program. Interested golf foursomes, tennis double teams and corporate sponsors can find out more and register for the event before August 11 at www.SpecialOlympicsWisconsin.org/SentryWorld.

“For over 50 years Special Olympics has given individuals with intellectual disabilities opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy while participating in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families,” said Kathleen Roach, president and CEO of Special Olympics Wisconsin.  “We’re thrilled to host this wonderful event for our prospective donors at one of northern Wisconsin’s premier venues for golf and tennis. It’s going to be a very enjoyable day and a great way to show support for our Special Olympics athletes.”

A wide range of corporate sponsorships for the event is also available, and information is posted at www.SpecialOlympicsWisconsin.org/SentryWorld. “Our sponsors are crucial to our fundraising efforts,” Roach said, “and we work hard to give them the recognition and appreciation they deserve.”

Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

SentryWorld Golf Course opened in 1982 as Wisconsin’s first destination golf course and was redesigned in 2014. View the course atwww.sentryworld.com.
