Daniel F. Burns, age 78, of Stevens Point, died June 18, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Daniel was born to the late Nicholas & Ardine (Kleist) Burns in Stevens Point, WI. He grew up in Almond, attended the local grade school, and graduated from Almond High School.

Daniel spent his whole life working on the family farm in Almond. He and his brother Jim became the owners and operators of the farm after their father retired. Daniel managed day-to-day operations related to growing potatoes, corn and raising cattle. Farming was extremely important to Daniel and he received awards in recognition of his hard work.  In addition, his farming pride inspired him and his brother to host the Farm Progress Days in 1982.  James Burns & Sons is still being operated by the Burns family today.

He married Nancy Vaughn on November 26, 1960 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Almond, WI. They were happily married for 58 years.

Daniel will be remembered for his hardworking, compassionate and generous nature. In his free time, he enjoyed cooking, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and spending time with friends and family. He and his wife enjoyed cruising and visiting many countries. Daniel often spent his winters in Palm Desert, CA. He was a lifelong member of the Almond Lions Club; a volunteer for the Almond Fire Department; and was on the Board of Directors of the Portage County Bank for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Stevens Point; children, Donna (David) Anderson of Peoria, AZ, Alice (Brian) Richter of Stevens Point, Dancy (Jim) Balestrieri of Tarrytown, NY; grandchildren, Holly (Jeremy) Head, Ryan Hemp, Brice Richter, Kristin Richter, Zachary Richter, Ian Balestrieri, Lucia Balestrieri and Vivian Balestrieri. He is further survived by great-granddaughter, Adelyn Head; brother, Jim Burns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Diana Burns.
