STEVENS POINT — Introduce your child to playing an instrument during a free event for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Aber Suzuki Center.

Held from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, July 7, at the Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum on Main Street in Stevens Point, the event offers an “Instrument Petting Zoo” where children may stop in at several different instrument stations to try each one and collect a passport stamp for a prize at the end. Families may also meet center faculty and listen to performances by current Suzuki students.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for those who want to explore playing an instrument,” said Ann Marie Novak, interim director of Suzuki Programs.

There are openings in cello, harp, guitar, viola, violin and voice as well as early childhood classes, which offer children from birth to age four experiences in singing, playing rhythm instruments and loving music with their parents. The Suzuki Method encourages music study in a nurturing environment, with parents working closely with their children.
