Cinema Spotlight: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Review by Claire Hoenecke
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a fine way to kill a couple of hours as long as you have nothing else to do.
The sequel to the 2015 reboot follows Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire and Chris Pratt’s Owen as they return to the abandoned theme park to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from an erupting volcano. The plot quickly switches gears when those working with them to rescue the dinosaurs reveal that their motives are not as philanthropic as Owen and Claire originally thought.
The plot is predictable and the characters are so one-dimensional they might as well be puppets. The relationship between Claire and Owen is just as forced as it was in the first movie proving once again that Chris Pratt has more chemistry with a CGI velociraptor than he does with Bryce Dallas Howard. The film introduces many other new characters that are all bland and stereotypical that they are forgotten the moment they are introduced.
Most upsetting is that after twenty-five years since the original Jurassic Park the dinosaurs in Fallen Kingdom look worse than those in the classic film. The CGI creatures in this film are so obviously fake that it takes you out of the film. The only good thing about these cartoon dinosaurs is that it makes you appreciate the technical genius of the dinosaur construction in the original 1993 film.
Rating: 4/10
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of science-fiction violence and peril.
