STEVENS POINT — From a stay-at-home mom, to self-made makeup expert and business owner, Gitanya Klein is no stranger to the ladder of quick success.

She recently opened up Glam by TK, a full service beauty studio in downtown Stevens Point, and it’s been a long, but accomplished road for Klein. Born in Jamaica, she has been living in the area with her husband for the past eight years. While Klein has always held a passion for makeup, it was at the friendly behest of her friends and family to go professional.

“This is my passion, this is what I love, and this is what I’ll probably be doing the rest of my life.” said Klein, who was quickly given her own chair at the makeup department at Kohl’s in 2014. However, her aspirations soon took her well beyond a retail store.

Klein would start school to obtain her cosmetology license, and sought to start her own business in the process. With the help of her mother, who moved to Stevens Point from Jamaica to help take care of her two children, Klein was able to finish school, and rent out her own space for her practice. In January of 2017, Glam by TK was born.

“It really took off.”

However, as Klein was offering more services to her clients, she was quickly out-growing her own space, and needed to expand. After a walk-through with the landlord at an open space on Main Street, she signed the paperwork that very day.

Klein believes the sometimes stressful journey to self-made businesswoman has been more than worth it.

“It’s a lot of work, and a lot of stress, but I feel like it’s all worth it, because I’m doing what I love and I didn’t let anything stop me from getting here.”

Glam by TK held their Grand Opening on June 23, and Klein and staff alike are excited to be a part of the downtown business scene. The hope, is that their clients feel as beautiful as they can in their own skin.

“When people walk in here, I want them to feel like a weight has been lifted off of their shoulders,” said Klein. “I want them to know that the service they’re going to be getting is excellent; we take pride in everything that we do here. I want my clients to leave feeling gorgeous, and to have ten times the confidence they had when they first walked in here.”

Glam by TK is located at 1149 Main St. For more information, visit http://glambytk.com/ or check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Gitanyaklein/
