SPASH’s Miklesh, Pacelli’s Hintz named First Team All-State

Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) senior center fielder Ally Miklesh and Pacelli Catholic High School senior catcher Paige Hintz were both named First Team All-State, to lead the area players on the 2018 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State.

A NCAA Division 1 University of Wisconsin recruit, Miklesh was named to the All-State Team for the fourth year in a row, as SPASH landed five players on this year’s Large Schools All-State Team.
A NAIA Madison College recruit, Hintz was named First Team All-State for the second year in a row, and was joined on the Small Schools All-State Team by Pacelli sophomore pitcher/third baseman Haley Raflik, who was a Second Team selection.
Miklesh was named Second Team All-State as a freshman and First Team All-State as a sophomore and a junior, before she was named First Team All-State for the third year in a row as a senior, when second-ranked SPASH finished 27-2 after it lost to seventh-ranked Chippewa Falls 4-1 in the WIAA Division 1 Sectional Finals.
Miklesh won the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) Batting Title this season with a .628 batting average and led the conference in on-base percentage (.686) and stolen bases (15), and ranked second in the conference in hits (27), third in runs scored (17) and fourth in RBI (14).
SPASH senior right fielder Halle Pavelski and sophomore catcher and NCAA Division 1 UW-Green Bay recruit Sam Saloun were both named Large Schools Second Team All-State by the WFSCA.

Pavelski tied for the WVC lead with 21 runs scored and led the conference with nine walks, while she hit .368 in conference play, tied for third in home runs (two) and sixth in RBI (12), and ranked seventh in on-base percentage (.480).
Saloun finished seventh in the WVC with a .432 batting average and finished second in the conference with 20 RBI and fifth in hits (19).

Junior third baseman Kayla Lass and senior pitcher/first baseman and NCAA Division II Northern State University (SD) recruit Andrea Cherney were also named Honorable Mention Large Schools All-State for SPASH.
A NCAA Division 1 UW-Green Bay recruit for volleyball, Lass hit .342 in the WVC and tied for fifth in the conference with 13 RBI.

Cherney went 6-0 and led the WVC with a 1.91 ERA and finished second with 35 strikeouts, while she only walked five during 36 and 2/3 innings during conference play. At the plate, Cherney was sixth in the conference with a .459 batting average, third in RBI (15), tied for fifth in doubles (five), ranked sixth in on-base percentage (.533) and tied for eighth in hits (17).

Hintz was named First Team All-State as a junior and again as a senior this season for top-ranked Pacelli, which finished 25-1 overall this season after a 10-0 loss to Horicon in the WIAA Division 4 State Semifinals.
Hintz hit .535 this season with 49 runs scored, 14 doubles, five triples, two home runs and 35 RBI, and finished with a .597 on-base percentage and stole 14 bases in 15 attempts.
In her first year as a full-time starter, Raflik was named Second Team Small Schools All-State by the WFCA after she went 14-1 with a 2.90 ERA in the circle, with 81 strikeouts and 27 walks in 73 innings.

As the team’s leadoff hitter, Raflik led Pacelli with a .569 batting average, 54 hits and 16 doubles, and also had three triples, 27 RBI, a .592 on-base percentage and was 12-for-12 on stolen bases.
