Local educator wins WEAFCS team effort award

For SPN
MADISON — The Wisconsin Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (WEAFCS) has awarded Sherry Daniels, Portage County Family Living Educator, and the Taking Care of You Team as this year’s winner of the WEAFCS Team Effort Award.
This award is presented to a group that addresses a community need through a program that demonstrates creative development, originality and measurable results.
This UW-Extension team partnered with a community coalition and fifteen UW-Extension colleagues from several disciplines to implement training in Taking Care of You: Body Mind Spirit. Taking Care of You (TCY) is a research-based, multi-session program developed by University of Missouri-Extension, offering practical strategies for reducing stress in day-to-day life. Team members were certified as TCY Master Trainers and brought the training to all regions of Wisconsin. The team also developed and delivered an on-line version of the program to further expand access. Early evaluation results show improvements in health behaviors.
The WEAFCS Team Effort award was presented at the 2018 Wisconsin Association of Family and Consumer Sciences banquet in WI Dells in May. WEAFCS is the Wisconsin Affiliate of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS). The organization educates and recognizes Extension professionals who improve the quality of life for individuals, families and communities.
