Mark Mackesy of Wausau will be the driver everyone has to beat when the Central Wisconsin Racing Association (CWRA) Stars to Legends Tour comes to Marshfield Motor Speedway Friday, July 6. Mackesy will be shooting for his fifth main event win on the Tour in 2018, as the veteran driver has been tough to beat wherever he has raced this year.

It is not for lack of competition that Mackesy has dominated the Tour so far in 2018, as Darek Gress of Neillsville and Jeff Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids have also posted wins. Mackesy has found a little better combination in setting up his purple and blue Super Late Model race car then the others thus far, but when it comes to competing on the big 1/2 mile paved Marshfield oval, the door is wide open.

Mackesy currently leads the CWRA Stars to Legends Tour season-point standings with 302 over Gress and Weinfurter at 277 each, but that margin could evaporate in a hurry with the two Feature event format CWRA uses.

Others hoping to capitalize on that scenario include Darren Jackson of Wisconsin Rapids, Rachal Kallas of Winneconne and Derrick Van Dreel of Wisconsin Rapids, who are ranked fourth through sixth in points and very much in contention for the Season Championship.

Tour “Rookie of the Year” candidates Jesse Bernhagen of Stevens Point and Brian Henry of Omro are next in points and will be at the race in hopes of moving up in the standings, while 2017 CWRA Champion Frank Nitzke of Berlin and Monte Gress of Neillsville will also challenge as they look for their first Feature wins of the 2018 campaign. Upwards of 20 Super Late Model race cars and drivers are expected for the Holiday-celebrating event.

Other Divisions racing on the night include Mods, X-Treme 4’s, Bandits and the 2-man Cruisers. All racing taking place is part of Classic Car Night at the track, which also includes festivities in Memory of WCAR’s Sue Bednarski. Racing is set to begin at 7 p.m.
