Hilltop Too claims victory in Iola

A late rally brought home victory for the Hilltop Too team in the Central Wisconsin Men’s Golf League, as play was held at Glacier Wood Golf Club in Iola Wednesday, June 27.

Entering the week’s play, Hilltop Too had a one-point lead over Midwest Hardware, with a potential eight points available for each team in the day’s play.

After struggling to a one-under par on the front nine in the two-man bestball format, Hilltop Too rallied with a 10-under on the back to pick up six points and win the first half title by a pair of points.

Hilltop Too’s roster consists of Jim Berg, Jim Carter, Bob Prosch, Mike Roberts and Scott Krueger. The top six teams cash in for prize money.

The complete first half standings are Hilltop Too (31), Big Apple Bagels (29), Rookies Sports Pub (28.5), Midwest Hardware (28), Jordan Bar (25.5), Hacker Backers (24.5), Badger Heating/Rice’s Paint (24), Point After/Cozy Kitchen (18.5), Two Harps (15.5), Partner’s Pub (9.5) and Hilltop Pub & Grill (8.5).

Low gross scores for the week on the par-71 track were recorded by Jim Brummer with a 69, Charlie Spaar 72, Richard Ensign and Tom Habel 73, Tom Shafranski and Jim Berg 74, Dan Newhouse and Scott Frazier 77, and Dan Parlier and Kyran Knutson at 78.

Low net scores had Brummer at 63, Ensign 65, Spaar 66, Shafranski, Knutson and Berg 68, Parlier Newhouse and Jim Mosey at 69, Mark Gotta and Rhody Mallick at 70, Bill Lester 72, and at 73 were Bernie Prutz, Jay Nordland and Rory Suomi.

Winning skins were recorded by Scott Gile, Mallick, Mark Strojny, Knutson and Shafranski.

The second half of the season will begin July 11 at Foxfire Golf Club in Waupaca.
