Obituary: Leonard B. Szymanski

Leonard B. Szymanski, 97, Stevens Point, died June 29, 2018 , at North Crest Assisted Living Center where he was a resident since November 2015. He was under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 A.M. Friday July 6, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Dennis Stanchik officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service in the St. Faustina Room at the church.

“Len” was born June 16, 1921 in the town of Alban, a son of the late Elizabeth (Wrycza) and Nicholas Szymanski. He attended local schools.
His marriage to Pearl A. Buza took place on March 27, 1941 at St. Gall’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. After their marriage the couple lived and worked in Milwaukee, and returned to Stevens Point in the mid-1940s. His wife Pearl preceded him in death on October 12, 2015, after being married to each other for more than 74 years.
Len was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Holy Name Society and a member of the Monsignor McGinley Council of the the Knights of Columbus 1170. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, and was honorably discharged on August 17, 1943.
As a youth, Len helped his father on the family farm, and then worked for Lullabye Furniture Co. before moving to Milwaukee during the depression to find other employment. When he returned to the area, he was employed by Crown’s Auto Sales as Garage Shop Foreman and later by Consolidated Papers Wisconsin River Division for 32 years until his retirement in 1983. He also owned and operated Len’s Outboard Service for many years, selling and servicing boats, motors and trailers in the Stevens Point area.
Survivors include his daughter Shirley “Shirl” (Jeff) Hild, his son James (Karen Barlow) Szymanski both of Stevens Point; his grandchildren, Emily (Jason) Maciejewski, Benjamin Szymanski and Sara (James) Frost; his great-grandsons, Sawyer, Rohan and Grady Frost; sister-in-law, Lorraine Treierweiler of Marshfield; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Teresa; his sister, Agnes Slowinski; his brothers-in-law, William Adams, Edward Trierweiler, Chester Buza and Walter Slowinski; and his sisters-in-law, Margaret Buza and Henrietta “Blondie” Adams.
