Stevens Point School Board highlights for July 9

For SPN
The Stevens Point Area Public School Board held their July meeting last night. Below is a quick recap of notable discussions and motions.
STEVENS POINT — Last evening, the School Board held their regular July meeting. Among other business, the School Board unanimously approved presenting two referendum questions to the community in November.
-The first question is to exceed the revenue limit by $3.5 million on a recurring basis for operational funds. These dollars would be used to maintain educational programming, staffing, and increase funding for technology and ongoing maintenance needs.
-The second question is for authority to bond (borrow) $75.9 million for needed deferred maintenance, safety and security and building projects (HVAC, plumbing, classroom reconfigurations, secure entrances, etc. to existing buildings as identified by District staff and Nexus).
The tax impact, if approved by the community in November, would increase 77 cents per thousand the first year (18-19) and 69 cents per thousand the following year (19-20) with a total increase of $1.46 per thousand (a home that is valued at $100,000 could expect an increase of $146).
“Thank you to the members of our community and staff who have taken the time to provide input through surveys, planning sessions, and focus groups as the scope and need of projects were identified.”
